Purpose
You are invited to participate in a study on domestic violence. This study focuses on experience and negative consequences of domestic violence on male victims. It will help to understand how a male victim feels in an abusive relationship and learn what forms of violence are used by female perpetrators.
Procedure
The study involves a semi- structured interview which lasts around 60 minutes. The questions are related to your personal experiences, feelings and opinion on being in an abusive relationship. The interview will be conducted through the phone which will help to maintain confidentiality and will not expose participants to stress. During the interview the interviewee needs to be by himself/herself in a quiet location.
Confidentiality
The interview will be recorded and then transcribed (typewritten version of dictation). No information collected will directly link you with the responses that you provide. Your name will be changed to a pseudonym to guarantee confidentiality. All the names of the streets, locations, cities provided in the interview will be transcribed using abbreviated forms, e.g. O’Connell Street- OS or replaced with fictitious names. No dates will be revealed in the transcript. Only the researcher and supervisor will have the access to collected data which will be stored on a password protected computer. Data which include any names of the participants will be stored In a private, secure cabinet.
Your Rights as a Participant
Your participation in this study is entirely voluntary and you may refuse to answer the questions without penalty or explanation. You are also free to withdraw consent and to discontinue participation at any point during the experiment. As a participant you have the right to have all questions concerning the study answered by the researcher. If you wish, you may get a copy of your transcript and any part of your interview can be removed at your request. You will be provided with a copy of this consent document.
